Yayland
4 June 2025

Fintech company YAY and Landsbankinn have come together to create a new company, Yayland ehf., which will specialise in the development, sale, issuance and operation of both digital and physical prepaid cards, gift certificates and loyalty cards. Yayland will take over the entire gift card operation of YAY in Iceland as well as all issuance and operation of prepaid cards for Landsbankinn.

With the establishment of the new company, a leading fintech company with extensive experience, knowledge and specialisation in prepaid solutions for companies and institutions enters the market.

YAY has in recent years become known as one Iceland’s strongest fintechs, handling such projects as the issuance of the “Ferðagjöf” card for the Icelandic State, operation of the gift card app YAY and service provider to over 250 companies and partners. At the same time, Landsbankinn has offered a reliable gift card service to many of Iceland’s largest companies in the form of prepaid cards, leveraging its strong infrastructure and decades of experience in distribution and service.

Ragnar Árnason, co-founder of YAY and Managing Director of Yayland: “We see significant opportunities in the development and management of prepaid cards for companies, both gift cards, reward and grant systems. Yayland will be a leading domestic fintech company in this field and we look forward to offering our smart, digital services to companies and institutions both large and small.

Lilja Björk Einarsdóttir, CEO of Landsbankinn:
“We are excited about the upcoming collaboration with YAY through Yayland. The prepaid card business is undergoing significant developments and there are exciting opportunities in the digital distribution of cards. In this new partnership, we’ll combine our expertise in prepaid cards and take advantage of joint strengths and experience to offer companies that use prepaid cards increased flexibility and more diversity in the products they offer their customers.”

Yayland will offer a wide product line and cater to diverse needs, offering physical cards, digital cards, payment cards, bar codes and QR codes as well as gift certificates for customer or employees. The company will meet the needs of companies of all sizes with both traditional and cutting-edge digital solutions. The solutions are scalable, secure and based on longstanding insight into the needs of the market and consumers.

The cooling trend in the domestic economy looks set to continue longer than previously predicted. Economic growth will be modest and mainly export driven. The outlook is for 4.8% inflation this year and it is likely that the policy rate will be raised to 8.25%, also this year. There are signs of slackening in the labour market, with increasing unemployment and lower demand for workers.
