The Central Bank of Iceland has decided to change the maximum amount limit in its interbank system.
As of 19 January 2026, the limit on large payments will be raised from ISK 10 million to ISK 30 million. This means that all payments lower than ISK 30 million will be routed through the retail system which is open all day, every day of the year. Payments amounting to and exceeding ISK 30 million will be processed through the large payments system, which is open on bank days between 9:00 and 16:30.
