Landsbankinn’s canteen in Reykjastræti 6 has been recertified under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, for the first time since the Bank moved to its new headquarters. The Bank’s canteen has been verified by the Nordic Swan since 2013 and was the first canteen in Icelandic to receive such certification.

Landsbankinn’s canteen offers meals to the Bank’s employees in its Reykjastræti headquarters and delivers to the Bank’s branches in the capital city area. It also serves as canteen to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.

The Nordic Swan certification is part of efforts to minimise waste and environmental impact in line with the Bank’s Sustainability Policy. The certification covers employee training, action to reduce waste, increase energy efficiency, reduce chemical content and use of harmful substances. It includes review of the ratio of organic products used, which the employees of the canteen and the Bank’s sustainability team have recently worked to increase through improved business relations with suppliers. Food waste is closely monitored and various measures implemented to reduce it.

Guðrún Lilja Kristinsdóttir, Managing Director of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel in Iceland: “Landsbankinn’s canteen has been certified under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel since 2013, showing ambition and drive to have a positive impact on the environment. With this recertification, the canteen takes further steps towards minimising food waste, increasing use of organic foods and providing a healthier work environment. Landsbankinn’s employees can be proud of the success of their canteen and we look forward to continued collaboration.”

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official ecolabel of the Nordic countries. The main object of the Nordic Swan is to reduce the environmental impact of products and services, and to help consumers make  ecofriendly choices.
