Lands­bankinn changes in­terest rates

Variable interest rates on non-indexed housing mortgages increase by 0.35 percentage points (pp). Fixed rates on non-indexed 36-month housing mortgages increase by 0.30 pp and fixed rates on non-indexed 60-month housing mortgages by 0.25 pp. Interest rates on inflation-indexed housing mortgages, both variable and fixed, are unchanged.

Variable interest on non-indexed housing mortgages remain unchanged at 4.20%. Lowest fixed rates on non-indexed housing mortgages will be 4.65%.

Prime rates on non-indexed lending increase by 0.35 pp while prime rates on inflation-indexed lending are unchanged. Variable rates on non-indexed vehicle and equipment financing loans increase by 0.35 pp. Overdraft rates increase by 0.50 pp.

Interest on non-indexed savings accounts increase by up to 0.50 pp, interest on fixed rate accounts increase by 0.50 pp and interest on general current accounts increase by 0.05 pp.

This interest rate decision of Landsbankinn follows the rate hike of the Central Bank of Iceland on 17 November, when the CBI raised rates by 0.50 pp. Interest rate changes also have regard for market rates and other financing terms of the Bank.

Landsbankinn's new interest rate tariff enters into effect on Thursday, 25 November 2021. Changes to interest on loans governed by the Act on Consumer Loans or the Act on Mortgage Lending to Consumers enter into effect in accordance with notifications sent to customers in online banking.

No interest or indexation accrues to Grindavík housing mortgages for three months
In response to the uncertainty and natural disaster that has befallen Grindavík, Landsbankinn, Arion Bank and Íslandsbanki, working with the Icelandic Financial Services Association (SFF), have concluded an agreement to cancel interest and indexation on housing mortgages held by inhabitants of Grindavík for a period of three months. An agreement to this effect was announced yesterday evening, 22 November.

Safe-deposit boxes moved from Grindavík to Mjóddin branch
The safe-deposit boxes that were located in Landsbankinn’s Grindavík branch were moved to the Mjóddin branch yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 15 November. There were around 150 safe-deposit boxes in Grindavík. The boxes will be accessible to customers as of tomorrow, Friday 17 November.

Easy to defer mortgage payments Many of our customers in Grindavík have housing mortgages and they will all have the option to defer payments (postpone instalments). Please contact us if you wish to do so. You can book an appointment on landsbankinn.is or email us at landsbankinn@landsbankinn.is. Mortgage payments can be deferred for up to six months. It’s quick and easy to apply and no fees will be charged to our Grindavík customers in this case. Safety-deposit boxes in Grindavík have been removed and are accessible in our branch in Mjódd, Reykjavík. The Bank’s employees in Grindavík have, just like other inhabitants, been relocated to other towns and will continue their work for the Bank, in other branches or through remote work, depending on the situation.
