The monthly wage index is a price index representing the hourly cost of labour in the Icelandic labour market. It shows general wage development. Statistics Iceland carries out a monthly salary review on a sample of companies with over 10 employees, and all state and municipality employees. The wage index is calculated based on detailed information about wages, the cost of wages, hours paid and various underlying factors.
