5 January 2026

KLAK – Icelandic Startups and Landsbankinn have renewed their partnership for innovation competition Gulleggið with the signing of a new three-year agreement. With this agreement, Landsbankinn further strengthens its role as the competition’s main sponsor and underscores its long-standing support for Icelandic innovation.

Landsbankinn has supported Gulleggið continuously since the competition was founded in 2008 and has played a significant role in creating a strong launchpad for entrepreneurs at the idea stage. Over the years, numerous successful startups have taken their first steps in Gulleggið, including Controlant, Meniga, PayAnalytics, Taktikal and the Heima app.

Ásta Sóllilja Guðmundsdóttir, CEO of KLAK – Icelandic Startups:

“Gulleggið is a unique platform for people who want to test their ideas, learn from others and take their first steps as entrepreneurs. Bringing an idea to life and building a strong company is a demanding process. Early support can be decisive. Landsbankinn understands the importance of this and has been a trusted supporter of Gulleggið for nearly two decades. We are extremely grateful for the support and look forward to continuing this strong partnership in the coming years.”

Hjalti Harðarson, Head of Marketing at Landsbankinn:

“Landsbankinn has always placed strong emphasis on supporting innovation and entrepreneurship that creates real value for society. Gulleggið is a unique platform where ideas are allowed to take shape and grow. We are proud to continue to be part of that journey.”

Gulleggið is held annually at the beginning of the year and begins this week with the Idea Accelerator of Gulleggið and Landsbankinn, which will take place at Landsbankinn Reykjastræti on 9-10 January. This is followed by a masterclass in which participants further develop their ideas and prepare an application for the final competition. Ten teams are ultimately selected to take part in the Gulleggið final, which will be held at Gróska on 26 February 2026.
