Landsbankinn ceases handling foreign cheques
Landsbankinn will cease selling foreign cheques as of 1 October and stop purchasing foreign cheques at the end of the year. This is due first and foremost to the fact that the use of cheques, both travellers' cheques and certified cheques, has decreased dramatically. In addition, cheques are far less secure than other payment methods now available.
Other methods of making and receiving international money transfers include SWIFT payments. SWIFT payments are quicker and more secure than cheques and, in most cases, a less expensive option for customers. In a vast majority of cases, Landsbankinn recommends using SWIFT to carry out international payments.
