Changes to the login process

As of 10 May 2022, customers who use a username and password to log in to online banking or the app will be required to authenticate the login activity with a security number texted to their phone. We urge you to make an appointment to activate your electronic ID as soon as possible.

Make an appointment to get electronic ID

If you don’t have electronic ID, you can make an appointment in any branch and we’ll help you activate them. Remember to bring conventional ID, such as a passport or driver's licence.

Strong customer authentication required to login

New rules on payment services require the use of strong customer authentication (SCA) to confirm online payments, including in online banking and the app. A username and password will no longer suffice. In compliance with these rules, we’ll text a security number to your phone to verify your login. You’ll be asked to enter this security number when logging in to online banking or the app.

In the future, we will stop supporting login with a username and password.

What should I do?

We encourage all customers to activate their electronic ID. This can easily be done by making an appointment in a local branch.

If your parents or relatives belong to an older generation, we encourage you to discuss these matter with them and even help them to get electronic ID of their own. Experience shows that older people appreciate the freedom of being able to pay bills and transfer funds independently in their phones or smart devices.

More convenient login methods

There are more convenient ways to log in to online banking and the app:

Face ID or your fingerprint, to log in to the app. Most newer phones and smart devices support this easy method.
Electronic ID.
We will soon support use of the Auðkenni app to log in.
